COMMUNITY PROGRAMS

  • KAUAI GROM SERIES

The Kaua‘i Grom Series is a community-based youth surf league that nurtures the next generation of surfers across the island. Hosted by the Hawai‘i Surf Foundation, the series provides a fun, supportive, and competitive environment for young surfers to develop their skills, build friendships, and connect with local surf culture.

Each event is designed to teach respect for the ocean, sportsmanship, and community values—helping groms gain experience in a structured setting while keeping the joy of surfing at the heart of every competition.

  • HAWAII BOARDRIDERS

The Hawai‘i Boardriders program connects surf clubs across the islands to celebrate community, competition, and aloha. Guided by the Hawai‘i Surf Foundation, this statewide initiative unites surfers of all ages and skill levels through team-based surf events that highlight local pride and support the next generation of athletes.

Each club represents its home break, encouraging mentorship between seasoned surfers and up-and-coming groms while fostering environmental stewardship, teamwork, and cultural respect. Together, the Boardriders network strengthens the bond between Hawai‘i’s surf communities—keeping the roots of surfing alive and thriving.

  • KIF SURF LEAGUE

The Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation (KIF) Surf League brings surfing into the school system as an officially recognized interscholastic sport. Operated in partnership with the Hawai‘i Surf Foundation, the league gives public, private, and charter school students the opportunity to represent their schools in structured surf competitions across the island.

More than just a sport, the KIF Surf League builds school spirit, encourages healthy lifestyles, and celebrates Hawai‘i’s deep surf heritage. Through teamwork, mentorship, and ocean education, students gain valuable life skills while connecting their academic journey with the culture and community that define Kaua‘i.

KAUAI GROM SERIES

The Kaua‘i Grom Series runs seasonally, hosting multiple events across the island to give young surfers experience in a variety of conditions. Each stop offers opportunities to earn points, progress through the ranks, and connect with other groms in a fun, supportive environment.

At the end of the season, regional rankings determine qualification for the Hawai‘i State Championships on O‘ahu, where top Kaua‘i surfers represent their island against other regions. From there, the highest-ranking athletes can advance to the USA Surfing Nationals at Lower Trestles in California, continuing the journey from local lineups to national competition.

KIF SURF LEAGUE

The Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation (KIF) Surf League gives high school students the opportunity to represent their schools in organized surf competition. Open to public, private, and charter schools across the island, the league promotes teamwork, school pride, and skill development through a structured season format.

The KIF season runs from March through April, with each school fielding both boys and girls surf teams. Athletes earn points across multiple meets held at different Kaua‘i surf breaks, contributing to both individual and team standings.
